But I always recommend giving yourself plenty of extra time.

I recommend starting with a list of everything you must have in your new home, and another list for the things you’d like but don’t necessarily have to have. Ask yourself questions like, how many bathrooms and bedrooms you’ll need for the size of your family, what’s your ideal location, and any unique needs you have. How big of lot do you want? Think about the time you spend doing maintenance.

And don’t forget closing costs, so saving up some extra money for that and checking around for the best deal on a loan is also an important part of the process.
